Maria Margarita Ntona

YHS-Greece National Representative

Maria Margarita Ntona a hydrogeologist with a Ph.D. in Environment, Design and Innovation from the Department of Environmental, Biological and Pharmaceutical Science and Technologies of the University of Campania "Luigi Vanvitelli". She has an extensive academic research experience which spans in a wide range of topics including water research management, environmental geology and groundwater quality/quantity variations under climate crisis, salinization, remote sensing, algorithm development, and surface water/groundwater modeling.

Athanasios V. Serafeim

YHS-Greece Chair

Athanasios V. Serafeim currently serves as a postdoctoral research associate at the University of Cagliari in the field of climatic characterization and simulation of main hydrological variables that control the hydrological cycle, while working also as a freelancer consultant in Athens, Greece. He holds a 5-year Diploma in Civil Engineering, a Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Water Resources Planning and Management and a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Civil and Environmental Engineering from the University of Patras (Patras, Greece). His PhD research focused on the development of an integrated, theoretically founded, and practically applicable methodological framework for resilient reduction of leakages in water distribution networks.

Stergios Emmanouil

YHS-Greece Co-chair

Stergios Emmanouil is an Assistant Research Professor at the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering and the Eversource Energy Center of the University of Connecticut (Storrs, United States). He holds a 5-year Diploma in Civil Engineering from the University of Patras (Patras, Greece), a Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Civil Engineering from the Delft University of Technology (Delft, the Netherlands), and a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Civil and Environmental Engineering from the University of Connecticut (Storrs, United States). His current research focuses on, but is not limited to, the development and application of statistical and stochastic approaches toward the modelling of natural processes and engineering systems, for risk assessment, design, and control.

Anastasios Perdios

YHS-Greece Co-chair

Anastasios Perdios is currently working towards finalizing his Ph.D. Thesis at the University of Patras in Greece, while also serving as a researcher at the Department of Civil, Environmental and Architecture Engineering at the University of Cagliari in Italy, in the area of extreme rainfall estimation. He holds a 5-year Diploma in Civil Engineering, a Master of Science degree (M.Sc.) in Civil and Environmental Engineering and his Ph.D. research focuses on the development of a probabilistic framework that allows for monitoring and alerting in water distribution and water supply networks. Anastasios is also experienced in environmental data analysis, stochastic simulation of hydrosystems, and hydrologic risk modeling.

Eleni Kritidou

YHS-Greece Secretary

Eleni Kritidou is currently a Ph.D. researcher at the University of Zurich, focusing on the hydrological modeling and statistical analysis of very rare flood events in Switzerland. Her main research field of interest is hydrology, water resources and extreme phenomena. She holds an MEng in Environmental Engineering from the Technical University of Crete and an MSc in Water Resources Engineering from the Katholikie University of Leuven. 

Maria Nefeli Georgaki

Maria Nefeli Georgaki is currently a Ph.D. candidate in the Department of Chemical Engineering and a scientific associate in the Department of Medicine at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. Her research interests include medical hydrology, water resource management and safety, solid and liquid waste disposal, environmental management and sustainable development, and human health quality. She is a graduate from the Department of Geology at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and holds a Master's Degree (MSc) in Applied and Environmental Geology with a specialization in "Mineral Resources and Environment" from the same department.

Maria Papailiopoulou

Maria Papailiopoulou is currently a Ph.D. candidate in the Department of Geology at the University of Patras. She is a graduate of the Department of Geology at the University of Patras and holds a Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Applied Environmental Geology and Geophysics. Her research interests include hydrogeology, groundwater salinization in coastal areas, water quality and quantity, and groundwater modeling.

Eleni Anna Nanou

Eleni Anna Nanou is currently a Ph.D. candidate in the Department of Geology at the University of Patras. She is a graduate of the Department of Geology at the University of Patras and holds a Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Environmental Sciences with a specialization in Hydrogeology from the same department. Her research interests include groundwater vulnerability assessment and mapping, karst, hydrochemistry, and groundwater management. 

Alexandra Aspioti

Alexandra Aspioti is currently a Ph.D. candidate in the Department of Civil Engineering, of the University of the Peloponnese. Her research interests include numerical simulations, coastal circulation, hydrodynamic circulation, wind and tide induced flow and environmental hydraulics. She is a graduate of the Department of Civil Engineering at the University of Patras and holds a Master's Degree (MSc) in Environmental Protection and Sustainable Development of the Department of Civil Engineering at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. 

Vasiliki Stavropoulou

Vasiliki Stavropoulou is currently a Ph.D. candidate and research assistant in the Department of Geology at the University of Patras. She is a graduate of the Department of Geology at the University of Patras and holds a Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Environmental Sciences with a specialization in Hydrogeology from the same institution. Her research interests span a broad range of topics, including hydrochemistry, groundwater management, environmental geology, salinization, and environmental management.

Dimitrios Karasogiannidis

Dimitrios Karasogiannidis is currently a Ph.D. candidate in the Department of Civil Engineering at Democritus University of Thrace, while working also as a freelancer Civil Engineer in Xanthe, Greece. He holds a 5-year Diploma in Civil Engineering and a Master of Science (M.Sc) in Design and Construction of Underground Works. His research interests encompass groundwater hydrology, hydrogeological investigations, and their applications within the field of civil engineering.
